General Benefits Information
Health Insurance (TRS ActiveCare)
- This is a PPO Plan in which you do not have to select a primary care physician, nor do you have to get a referral to see a specialist. Freedom to visit any physician or hospital you choose.
- Employees can use either network or non-network physicians. The PPO plan pays a larger portion of the health care costs when using network physicians and health care facilities than non-network. You can go online and check to see if your doctor is in the network or not (www.trs.state.tx.us/trs-activecare). This website also has additional information on the health care plans and a video.
- Four different plans are available from which an employee can select: ActiveCare 1, ActiveCare 1-HD, ActiveCare 2, and ActiveCare 3.
- WISD contributes $266.00 to the cost of the plan the employee selects.
Life Insurance
- The district provides $5,000.00 of life insurance to all employees at no cost to the employee through Horace Mann.
- This coverage is effective only while employed with WISD.
- This coverage is for the employee only.
- An employee can purchase additional life insurance (contact Benefits office for additional information).
Other available insurance
- First Financial is the district’s Third Party Administrator who administers additional insurance programs to WISD employees. For additional information about these programs please visit their website that highlights additional WISD employee benefits.

Additional Information and Forms
From time to time it may become necessary for an employee to change a beneficiary or when there has been a name change to update beneficiary information. Several different forms are provided to assist you. If you have questions regarding changing a beneficiary you may contact the WISD Benefits office.
